End SARS: Naira Marley succumb to pressure, calls off protest
Nigerian singer Azeez Fashola 'Naira Marley' made a late hour dramatic u-turn to called off the proposed protest slated for today against the operation of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad Unit, SARS of the Nigerian police.
Naira Marley has revealed earlier that there will be a protest in Lagos today against the conduct of the men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS.
The Inspector-General of police already restricted the unpopular police unit and other tactical squads operation after news of the abuses of human rights and illegal operation became public again last week.
"We won’t be protesting anymore because there’s a lot of changes being made right now. As a Marlian we will give them a week to see the changes and if there’s no changes we will start a mass protest" says Naira Marley on his social media handle why revealing why the protest was called off.
"The Force is irrevocably committed to changing these narratives and undertaking far-reaching reforms to reposition SARS and other Tactical Squads for better service delivery.
The Orders and restrictions on the operations of SARS and others already issued by the IGP are just the initial steps out of the many reforms planned for the Tactical Squads" reads a statement by the NPF.
Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police is assuring Nigerian youths that the force is planning on reforming SARS and other tactical units within the force.
Nigerians in their numbers have been calling off the police to disband SARS in the last three years following their numerous illegal activities leading to death and harm to the masses in the society.
The force spokesperson Frank Mba, will be live on Instagram session with Naira Marley today to discuss some of the new measures put in place to put SARS and other tactical units under check.
